Incorporating the French model, by way of incorporating into its base wine small batches of specially crafted and matured reserve wines. In the case of this release – which is a 79:21 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir derived from the 2010 vintage – some 18 percent of the wine was sourced from reserve stocks created in 2009 and 2008. This has resulted in a fine, elegant, luxurious wine that is rich and complex in aroma and flavour, yet still retains the fundamental verve and freshness of the authentic non-vintage style. Twenty-two months of ageing on lees in the bottle have added wonderful depth and layers of texture to the palate. Its cool Tasmanian origins are as clear as a bell, and highlighted by the region’s Chardonnay driven crisp, citrussy acidity which defines the wine’s classic structure.
