An expressive Mornington Peninsula red with perfumed red and blue fruit, florals, fresh herbs and gentle forest-floor complexity. Supple and graceful, it combines delicate fruit with savoury spice and an easy medium-bodied flow.
The Montalto Story
Montalto began as a family dream in the 1980s, inspired by summers spent overlooking the vineyards of southern France. Over long lunches with rosé in hand, John and Wendy Mitchell imagined planting vines of their own on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
After returning to Australia in 1990, John studied viticulture at the University of Melbourne’s Dookie campus. Before the family planted their original coastal site, they discovered an established vineyard and striking landscape that reshaped the plan and became Montalto’s home.
Over the following years, the family built Montalto into a genuine heartland for their wine and produce, guided by a natural and sustainable approach to horticulture and a desire to create a welcoming place for visitors. Montalto opened to the public in January 2002 and remains a family-led estate, with John and Wendy the creators and guardians of its shared vision.
Tasting Notes
An inviting perfume brings together red and blue fruits, florals, talc, forest floor and crushed fresh herbs. The palate is supple and delicate, with cherry, currant and strawberry compote layered with Asian five-spice.
Medium-bodied and beautifully expressive, this Pinot Noir moves with flow and grace through a poised, savoury finish.
