Montalto Pennon Hill Pinot Noir

Montalto was a long time in the making. In the 1980’s we lived in the UK, and spent summers in the south of France overlooking the vineyards rolling down to the Mediterranean. It was there, over lazy summer lunches, glass of rose in hand, that we dreamed. We decided to plant a few vines at our house on the coast of the Mornington Peninsula. When we returned to Australia in 1990, John set about turning the dream into reality, and studied viticulture at the University of Melbourne’s Dookie campus. Best laid plans…however before we got around to this, we discovered the established vineyard and beautiful landscape of the site that was to become Montalto and everything changed. Over the ensuing years we brought this new dream into reality, a genuine heartland and home for our produce, a natural and sustainable expression of horticultural production, and a welcoming experience for the visitor. In January 2002 the dream became a reality and Montalto opened to the public. Those of us who live in Australia are involved in the business, with John and Wendy the proud creators and guardians of a shared vision and true community of staff. We draw on what we love and share this with you.
